  2. i was present there on the spot when the incident happened. it was around 12 to 1pm that day. since our annual examnination was going on ,i was on my way to school for afternoon duties. the ex-soldiers were marching off peacefully carrying banners and placards demanding statehood.they were not carrying any sort of weapons or illegal things but obviously they were shouting slogans for gorkhaland.i reached darjeeling more and found that the police had barricaded the whole highway and formed themselves in three groups.the police had stopped the marchers there.since everything was normal i hoped i would be permitted to crosscver.i managed to reached the police barricade and found that only some ex-servicemen were arguing with the police.some of them were busy filming the whole scenario from the compound wall of the dghc office (under construction).after sometime,i saw a gorkhali sub-inspector (kalikotey) and asked him to let me go.he directed me towards his officer near him (a three star officer).he didn’t listen to me since he might be confused as i.then i saw women arguing with mr kalikotey.those women were examinees and he let them go after verifying their admit cards.some tourists were stranded too and after much arguing they were let off.i too asked him to let go and he demanded my identity card.since i had none i suggested him to talk with my senior collegue in phone..as he was talking, a senior officer rebuffed him and so i was there for a moment.everything was peaceful and normal. people were resting on both sides of the road.then someone told me to take alternate route.that was to jump over the compound wall of a garage beside the road.i proceeded towards the wall and behind the garage there were many aged soldiers resting on benches.they looked as if they were feeling too hot.there were some women also.then ,when i had just jumped over the railway tracks i heard a loud commotion and the rattling of sticks.the police had lathicharged.
